Respondents pointed to a lack of staff awareness (97%) and staff expertise and training (95%) as the top obstacles, with accessibility work so far mostly covering public websites while apps and LMS platforms lag behind. Districts can generally only move as fast as the tools they’ve bought allow.

That matters most for assessment tools, since testing is one of the most scrutinized parts of the digital classroom experience. The direction is clear even as deadlines shift: accessibility, including how tools handle accommodations, is becoming a baseline expectation for K-12 edtech, not an optional feature added later to check a compliance box.
